institute1St. Augustine’s Institute, established in 2000 by the Uganda Episcopal Conference for the ongoing formation of diocesan priests, formerly extended its on-going formation program to religious Congregations in 2013.

Motto

"Shepherds after my own heart" (Jeremiah 3:15).

Vision

To be instruments in God's hands as he carries out his promise of sending to his people shepherds after his own heart who will shepherd them wisely and prudently. 

Mission

To engage pastoral agents in their effort to become more configured to Christ the Good Shepherd, and to expose them to programs that equip them with the necessary awareness and skills to meet the present pastoral challenges in their places of ministry.

2018 Courses

In 2018 eight courses of unequal length are offered at St. Augustine’s Institute. They consist of: Course John offered in 3 sessions of up to five days, given at different times in the year, two 30-Day Ignatian retreats, a three-month Sabbatical program preceded by one of the 30 Day retreats, a three-week Computer Basics course and one-week reunion for priests celebrating 25 five years of their priestly ministry. Below is the outlay of the program.

Sabbatical Program 2018

In November 2016 The Uganda Episcopal Conference agreed that a Sabbatical Program be started at St. Augustine’s Institute, starting 2018.A year later, the bishops endorsed the draft for the Sabbatical program which is now unleashed in this prospective.

It is ushered in with a 30 day Ignatian retreat, followed by seven weeks which are carefully designed to foster the participant’s relation with the inner self, with God and with others.

Course John

Course John is offered by the St. Andrew’s School of Evangelization in Canada, together with their counterparts in Uganda.

The St. Andrew School of Evangelization is a Catholic ministry of lay people and clergy, evangelizing, proclaiming the gospel in the model of the apostle St. Andrew. St. Andrew, upon encountering the Christ, first went to get his brother Simon Peter. (Cf. John1:35-42)
