Three of the four resident staff of St. Augustine’s Institute attended a 30 day retreat within the last four years, and two of them have also had a chance to co-facilitate one. The gathered experience and observation of the effects of the retreat on the participants has convinced the staff that this retreat can achieve in thirty days what a renewal program for priests may fail to attain in years. Unlike other retreats, the Ignatian Retreat is a meticulously systematic plan of conversion and renewal. In the first place the 30 day retreat is for everyone. Everyone who sincerely desires to totally engage his or her potential in the service of the Lord can benefit from a thirty-day retreat, at least once in a lifetime.
Additionally this retreat is very helpful to people with special challenges. priests and religious at the verge of abandoning ministry or even those who have been suspended get back to active ministry with renewed vigor. The same applies to those who feel burnt out, exhausted or disillusioned.
A Jesuit priest, Fr. George Ukken SJ will be the main preacher of the retreat, assisted by three others, since each participant requires an hour’s individual meeting with an appointed guide.
The 30-day Ignatian Directed Retreat: includes an hour’s input by the main facilitator, 4-5 “prayer periods” one our each every day, (with every hour followed by a 15 minutes written review, which forms the material for sharing with the respective guide) one daily session with a Guide, individual leisure time and sport, Eucharist, Holy Hour, and an opportunity for the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
St. Augustine’s Institute green gardens offer ample space for silence and meditation. The unfolding of the program is done by the main facilitator of the retreat as it proceeds.
